THE EVIL BEHIND THE MASK

As I have oft said, the rise of Fundamentalism is an evil the world needs to be rid of. Thankfully Bush has gone but his ilk still hold too much power and the LAND OF LIBERTY FOR ALL needs to defend itself from the enemy within and come to see why the rest of us fear the USA more than any Muslim fundamentalist. They are out in the open but the evil in the USA hides itself behind the banner of righteousness. YOU could be the next on their hit list. EDIT: before anyone else misunderstands, I am well aware that not all Americnas are intolerant fundies. However, it is up to those who are not to fight this evil. Those of us outside of the USA cannot do it on our own. You need to wrest control of your country back from this wicked ideology. Don't be fooled-it isn't just the gays they hate, they hate anyone who doesn't think as they do and you will be next on their hit list. The evil of the dark ages will be back upon us if they are not fought againsts and not seen as more than something to poke fun at. It is far too serious for that. You may think you are safe becaus eyou agree with them. What if they don't think you do? Then what? Not such a cosy thought is it?

I had never heard about that before. It's so crazy it barely sounds possible. Does anybody really think that you can wipe out a population that has been present since the dawn of man? Or that it's impossible that people are born homosexual when it happens in every culture on the face of the planet, even back when the cultures didn't interact much? Just those two things alone seem to be evidence :S.

I do totally respect your opinion, but I have to object to characterizing the whole country by the fundies. Just because they scream the loudest doesn't mean they represent us all ;), or that the rest of us don't see through it. However, I do agree that fundamentalism as a whole is very likely to give rise to some serious kooks with some crazy behavior.

I am an American and had a very discouraging conversation with my own husband a few days ago about DC's recent change in its charter allowing gay marriage. His comment: "they'll just have another amendment banning it - after the people have spoken." My response: Perhaps DC is better than Maine and California. Besides, since when do we get to vote on the human rights of others?
His response: This isn't about rights that they have; it's about giving them rights. My response: No, it's about restoring already God-given rights. Certain rights are inalienable, given to us by God whether the government agrees or not.
This from a man with a gay daughter! I am sick to death of it!
Please see also my quote of Thomas Jefferson to a later post of Colin's.
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!
Thank God for people like Rachel Maddow with education, sense and tenacity!

Sadly, those of us who are against such nonsense do not have much of a voice. We can yell and scream and march and picket until the world looks level, but the bigots are still holding sway. It is disgusting and very frustrating. We'll keep at it, but I think it will take a generation before the haters begin to die off. (hope I'm wrong.)
