Glass Ceiling ( Bigots Rule)

John has been in the same job for 36 years. He is an expert in his field and is world renowned in that field.

Some years back, his boss retired. Everyone assumed John would take over. They brought someone in from outside. That didn't work out.

Again they brought in an outsider. That didn't work either.

Now they have another outsider. When the boss is away, and John is with him, it is John who knows the answers and does the talking.

John does not have the boss's job because John does not have a wife.

It upsets me that they would treat him in this fashion. Never mind the financial costs to him of their bigotry, the personal cost and humiliation is bad enough.

Typical world we live in today. Perhaps John should keep quiet when the questions are being asked....defer to the boss as the one who should know the answers to any questions...see how far he gets!
Hope the puppies and Mum are doing ok.

I would be afraid that, should John not answer questions he is known to have the answer to, he would be penalized, perhaps radically. I agree it is rediculous that John is being mistreated because he "has no wife." There is so much bigotry in the world today. I don't know what John's "extracurricular activities" has to do with his knowledge or job performance. Oh, my! I feel another blog entry coming on.

I have to agree with nutty knitter. It makes no sense to any rational, thinking person to continue the discrimination in the world today. How much better off would societies all over the world be, economically and socially, if only we could get beyond prejudice of all kinds and recognize the contribution every individual human can make? For now, we have no way of knowing.

The Native Americans referred to homosexuals as "two spirited" and gave them a special status in their societies.

Maybe someday.

Like sandy said, this is what I wanted to say about the matter. It is not at all intelligible(is that the word?) that John does nt have the job as boss, the knowhow is there and they should not care for his marital status. I dont like this way the humankind has taken to, it sure is bigot.

Hope the pups feed well, they look like a bundle of joy, one has a little resemblance of a panda in the picture, but this might be perspective :-)

Wow! Just when I think we are making progress and actually moving into the 21st century I read something like this and realise we still have a very long way to go.

It is completely unfair, and has been going on for far too long. But the world can and does change. I don't know if this little story will help, but here it is anyway.

I am the youngest of five children. Some of us are gay; some are straight. My sister and her spouse (a woman) have a son together. One day, my son, who was about eight at the time, asked me why his cousin had two moms and whether they were married to each other. I explained that some people fall in love with people of the opposite sex, and some people fall in love with people of the same sex, and that my sister and her partner were a couple, but that they were not legally allowed to marry.

He asked me why. (You don't really know what you know until you have to explain it to a child.) I told him that some people think it is wrong for a woman to love another woman, or a man to love another man, and that these people have made it illegal for same-sex couples to marry. He looked at me in utter disbelief. "Well, that's just wrong!" he exclaimed. "How could it ever be bad for people to love each other and get married?"

If a child can see the truth so easily, I'm sure someday the rest of us will follow suit. It's a long road, but it has only one destination in the end.

There will always be those who are afraid of those not fitting the image of mainstream in the business world. Many experience it for reasons of living status, color, gender, age and disability. Even religion or lack thereof.

John is to be commended by not lowering himself to their level and just going on as he has. The respect and esteem he has in his field will do more for him in the long run then descending to the corporate bigotry level.

Hope Luna and puppies are doing well and you too.

Colin you KNOW this one really really gets my goat!

This is utterly outrageous! Here in the States, as I imagine there in the U.K., it is hard to sue because such evil is so hard to prove!

Echoing the sentiments of the others.
YUCHHHHHH
Hope momma and babies are doing well,
